Homegoing of Mrs. Carter

Mrs. Edna Carter - mother of Sam Carter passed away this morning.  We remember with fondness Mrs. Carter, her smile, joy and full of life personality.  It is with joy that we know she is now with Jesus, but her presence will be missed dearly among her loving family and friends.

Arrangements are as follows:

Viewing Friday from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Harris Funeral Home
Funeral is Saturday at 11:00 AM at Antioch

A lunch will be provided for the family following the service on Saturday.  Your donation of food is such a blessing to the family at  time like this and a beautiful gesture of love.  Please bring food to the church Saturday morning.

Church Workday This Saturday

There will be a mid-year church workday Saturday beginning at 8:00 AM.  There is plenty of work inside and out - something for everyone to do as we take care of maintaining God's house.  Easter is March 31 and we are planning to have the church grounds in great shape!

Annie Armstrong Easter Offering

The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering® is much more than an offering envelope and an annual missions-giving emphasis. When people give to the offering, 100 percent of their gift will be transformed into missionary salaries and ministry supplies. Those missionaries and supplies will help others hear the message of Christ and respond in faith to His offer of salvation. Time and again our missionaries relate how the offering is their lifeblood. They know that behind each penny given, there is a Southern Baptist who believes in what they do and are affirming the need to equip them to share the gospel with those who need a Savior.

Here are some fast facts about this offering:
The reason we give to AAEO:
To help our missionary force reach for Christ an estimated 260 million lost people in the United States and Canada; that is three of four people.

The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering Goal for 2013:
$70 million

Amount given to AAEO in 2012:
Year-end figures totaled $57.2 million
Amount of AAEO used to support missionaries and their work:
100%

Total 2012/2013 NAMB budget:
$114,500,000

Amount of NAMB budget that comes from Annie:
49%

Amount of NAMB budget from Cooperative Program:
38%

Year offering started by WMU:
1895

Amount given in 1895:
$5,000 +

Year offering named for Annie Armstrong:
1934
What do AAEO-supported missionaries do?
  • Start new churches
  • Engage in student evangelism on college campuses
  • Serve the physical and spiritual needs of people through ministry evangelism
  • Serve as church planting catalysts
Antioch will be receiving donations for this offering through the month of March.  You are encouraged to be in prayer about what the Lord would have you to share.

What Does Repentance Look Like?

Last Sunday we were challenged with a powerful message about revival.  We heard that revival begins with repentance and obedience.  Here is a powerful poem about what repentance is and is not:

Repentance doesn’t mean going through life with your head down, feeling remorseful for being so bad. It means start doing something good. Start practicing what you believe in.

Repent means start doing the things that you know you should do. If you are alienated from somebody, be reconciled.
If you are self-righteous in relation to others, humble yourself.
If you have been uncaring toward the poor, now is the time to get some moral imagination and put yourself in the plight of another human being.
If you have been callous about prospects for peace in the world, now is the time for you to start praying and begin working for those things in your own neighborhood that make for peace.

If you have put your trust in the accumulation of things so that you are slave to a whole host of masters, now is the time for you to unload some of the stuff and to put your trust in God.
And if you assumed to this point that you are going to be judged on your ability to avoid evil in this life, this is the time for you to hear that you are going to be judged on your courage to do the good.

When I Say I'm A Christian

by Maya Angelou
When I say… "I am a Christian"

I’m not shouting "I’m clean livin’"

I’m whispering "I was lost, Now I’m found and forgiven."

When I say… "I am a Christian" I don’t speak of this with pride.

I’m confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say… "I am a Christian" I’m not trying to be strong.

I’m professing that I’m weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say… "I am a Christian" I’m not bragging of success.

I’m admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say… "I am a Christian" I’m not claiming to be perfect,

My flaws are far too visible but, God believes I am worth it.

When I say… "I am a Christian" I still feel the sting of pain..

I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say… "I am a Christian" I’m not holier than thou,

I’m just a simple sinner Who received God’s good grace, somehow!

"A woman’s heart should be so hidden in Christ
that a man should have to seek Him first to find her."

Prayer Guide For Our Leaders

We all know that we should be praying for our leaders.  Scripture admonishes us to 'pray for those in authority'.  Billy Graham has put together a  "Prayer For Leaders" guide that is Scriptural based prayers.  This prayer guide is a free download.

You can find the prayer booklet HERE.

"It is a great privilege, as well as our responsibility,
to pray for our government leaders."   — Billy Graham

This week is our Family Meal!!  Wednesday at 6:00 PM, you are encouraged to bring a covered food dish to share, load up the family and enjoy a meal together with the church family.  This is a wonderful opportunity to form bonds of deeper friendship with the church family as we relax over the table.

Following the meal, there will be youth class and adult prayer meeting.  Hope you will plan to be there!
