This is Grace

This is GRACE.
A young employee secretly misappropriated several hundred dollars of his business firm's money. When this action was discovered the young man was told to report to the office of the senior partner of the firm. As he walked up the stairs toward the administrative office the young employee was heavyhearted. He knew without a doubt he would lose his position with the firm. He also feared the possibility of legal action taken against him. Seemingly his whole world had collapsed. Upon his arrival in the office of the senior executive the young man was questioned about the whole affair. He was asked if the allegations were true and he answered in the affirmative. Then the executive surprisingly asked this question: "If I keep you in your present capacity, can I trust you in the future?" The young worker brightened up and said, "Yes, sir, you surely can. I've learned my lesson."
The executive responded, "I'm not going to press charges, and you can continue in your present responsibility." The employer concluded the conversation with his younger employee by saying, "I think you ought to know, however, that you are the second man in this firm who succumbed to temptation and was shown leniency. I was the first. What you have done, I did. The mercy you are receiving, I received. It is only the GRACE of God that can keep us both."

Florida Baptist Children’s Home Diaper Drive

image

Can you imagine going through 30,000 diapers a month?
That’s how many diapers are needed for the domestic and international childcare needs of the Florida Baptist Children’s Homes. Our goal is to be able to help defray significant childcare costs for our foster parents and for the Children’s Malnutrition Center in Guatemala by providing them with a large quantity of disposable diapers for use throughout the year.

For this reason we are collecting diapers during the days leading up to Orphan Sunday, which is designed to raise awareness of the plight of orphaned and disadvantaged children around the world. The campaign runs from Tuesday, September 24, 2013 and concludes on Orphan Sunday, November 3, 2013.

Antioch is participating in this diaper drive and needs your help!  Our goal is 1,000 diapers to be collected.  There is a box in the foyer to receive diapers.  Thank you for your support!

My Hope with Billy Graham

My Hope America with Billy Graham is a nationwide effort to reach people across the United States with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Following a simple biblical model, My Hope America with Billy Graham combines the impact of video programs with the power of personal relationships. Christians across America will open their homes this November to share the Gospel message with friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors using one of several new evangelistic programs featuring life-changing testimonies & powerful messages from Billy Graham.

Become a Matthew

The Apostle Matthew invited people into his home to meet Jesus (Matthew 9:9–10). Now you can join concerned Christians across America who will also invite friends and family into their homes, or another gathering place, so that they can hear the life-changing message of the Gospel. Many are nervous about sharing their faith. However, as we have done this outreach around the globe, people like you have shared howMy Hope made it simple for them and they have been able to help impact lives in a way they never thought possible. Sign up to get all the training you need to:
  • Look around and identify your friends, neighbors, co-workers, fellow students, and family who do not know Jesus Christ as their Savior.
  • Look forward to preparing your home and inviting every person on your list to view a program in your home or other comfortable place.
  • Look up and pray every day for each person you have listed.
  • Look after those who give their lives to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith.
  • Look out for opportunities to build your relationship with these people.
  • Antioch will be participating in this outreach.  If you would be interested in opening your home, please see Bro. Dave.

Life In Christ

life in christ picture
God tells us in the Bible that being a Christian is about living IN Christ and in relationship with others. Much of scripture including four of the Ten Commandments,

This diagram shows the order of priority in scripture for these relationships and that for Christians, Christ is at the center of all of them tells us how we are to live in relationship with Him and the other six with others.

Missionary Spotlight

During the week of prayer for Home Missions, Ms. Lorna Bius and her ministry were highlighted in our prayer brochure.  The youth of Antioch wrote her a card of appreciation.  She responded to the card and came for a Sunday night service to share what God is doing through her missions work.

A recent article was found in a publication of the Florida Baptist Convention.  Here is a highlight of Mr. Bius.

At only 10 years old, Lorna Bius experienced what she now describes, some 30 years later, as the “most transforming and foundational experience of my life with Christ.”

The young Bius had spent a week at Camp WorldLight, a mission camp made possible by Florida Baptists’ heart of generosity.

That week Bius sensed that God orchestrated circumstances to help her understand she could trust Him no matter what happens in life.

Answering the call to full-time ministry 20 years ago, Bius now serves in the western United States as a LoveLoud missionary for the North American Mission Board, working alongside churches and other SBC partners, helping them to “demonstrate God’s love by meeting significant human need while sharing Christ.”

Five Florida Baptist mission camps are supported by the state offering, preparing the next generation to answer God’s call.

Pray for Bius as she leads churches
across the west to meet needs
and share Christ
in their communities.

Leafage and Rootage

American President Woodrow Wilson once pointed out that "a man’s rootage is more important than his leafage." What others see are the leaves, the outside. What they can’t see are the roots, the values and principles that ground a person. Character is grown from a good system of roots.…
People of character live from the inside out. Their convictions guide their actions. Their principles govern their lives. People of character have both the strength and grace to give their best to the world.
To their enemy they give forgiveness.
To an outsider, understanding.
To a friend, their heart.
To their children, a good example.
To their mates, faithfulness.
To their parents, respect.
To themselves, gentleness.
To all people, kindness.

Strong roots produce a strong character. And a strong character is needed to give one’s best to life. When the tree’s roots are well tended, the leaves will be full and healthy.

10 Questions That Will Transform Your Life

What Would Jesus Do? or WWJD has become ubiquitous on T-shirts, coffee mugs, wristbands and church billboards. But when trying to define the Christian life Jesus intended His followers to live, a more valuable question is What Would Jesus Ask?

According to the Gospels, Jesus posed hundreds of questions that taken together lay a foundation for strong, vibrant and lasting faith. As individuals or groups wrestle with Jesus’ questions, they will find the answers they need to live a more holistic and committed Christian life.

 1. Are you a spiritual person?

2. Do you care about others?

3. What kind of leader are you?

4. What will be your legacy?

5. Do you have time for God?

 6. When will you ever have enough?

 7. Does your faith influence your finances?

8. What are you afraid of? ?

9. Will you stand for Jesus

10. What does a successful life look like?

Making the Sacrifice to Trust God

We make the sacrifice of trust and experience God’s peace…
  • when we choose not to panic… but to rest in God’s presence,
  • when we release our terror… and trust in God’s wisdom and ways,
  • when we reject our nervousness… and remember that God is in control,
  • and when we ignore our dread… and instead accept God’s dealings.
We can either trust Almighty God or succumb to the emotions of the flesh. Choosing to trust God—making the sacrifice of trust—causes us to experience His peace… even in the midst of tremendous uproar.
A Prayer to Pray:
God, You are my reason for living, my salvation, my comfort, my provider, my love. I choose today to follow You every step of the way. When the way gets hard and I falter, encourage me and give the me faith to trust You.

Hospitable Thoughts

Here are some great thoughts from an article on Christian Hospitality.

Hospitality is something that should permeate the church. It should be the lifeblood of community that should be thriving in each church so much so that your neighborhoods feel the affects of hospitality.

Hospitality is not about having the perfect house or showing off your cooking skills. Hospitality is about meeting people where they are and learning how you can best serve them - whether that be with a warm meal or friendly conversation.

Hospitality doesn't need to be expensive. You don't need special skills or resources. All you need is a willingness to serve and the motivation to go do it!

Provide Coffee or Dessert - Keep it simple

Having people over doesn't always have to be for dinner. So have the single mom from down the street over for coffee. Invite that new family at church over for dessert after the evening service. Don't over-think it. Just provide some hot coffee or some cookies and get to know each other!

Meet at a Park

I know a big concern for many people who want to practice hospitality is having enough room. An easy way to have a big family over is to meet at a park for a picnic lunch. Each family can bring their own meals {maybe you can provide dessert} and you can get to know each other in the sunshine while your kids play together.

Use Your Gifts

Think of some ways that you are gifted and can bless others with that gift

Have a BBQ

Invite your neighborhood over for a backyard BBQ, get to know those who live nearby, and be good witnesses of the Gospel!

Host a Potluck

If you are inviting others over often, this can create quite a financial strain over time, especially when you are committed to eating healthy. Invite a large group over and ask each family to bring a main course or a side dish.
Hosting a potluck opens up the door for hospitality without putting all the strain on you and your family. You can easily have large groups (like your Bible study group) over without feeling the financial strain and having to spend days in preparation.

Practicing hospitality doesn't have to be overwhelming, scary or financially stressful. The threat of feeling like we have to be perfect can cause us not to open our homes and our lives to others. It can feel like we have to have a perfect house and be a gourmet chef in order to have people over.
We can be paralyzed by the fear of hospitality, but hospitality doesn't have to be intimidating. Whether you live in a big house with lots of room or a small apartment, hospitality is doable and vital to the health of the church. Here are a few resources to get you started if you want to practice hospitality for the first time.

How To Be An Encourager

Why should we be an encourager?  Here are a few good reasons!!

1. You never know what other people are going through.
This point is probably not a great revelation to you, but it is worth repeating. That cashier who isn’t smiling? Maybe she sat up all night with a sick child. The fast food worker that seems slow? Perhaps he gets up at 4:30am and works two jobs while in school. The point is: you just can’t know.

2. You cannot judge a person by their appearance any more than you can judge a book by its cover.
Sometimes people look like something they are not. Maybe she enjoys fashion and has a tendency to overkill on the makeup. Perhaps his clothing choice isn’t the most accurate display for his heart for missions. Everyone, no matter their appearance, can use a little encouragement. From the best-dressed executive on Wall Street to the homeless man begging on the corner.

3. When you encourage others, you will be encouraged.
I like to call it “The Cycle of Joy.” You spread joy; you receive joy. Seems simple enough, yet I sometimes struggle to be the one to begin the cycle.
Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up. Prov. 12:25

4. When you encourage others, you are obeying God’s Word.
Paul knew the importance of a good word; I’m guessing it just may have saved his thought life a time or two!
Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. I Thess 5:11

5. You are making a worthy time investment when you encourage someone else.
The encouragement you invest in others will reap rewards. You may not see them the same day you make your investment, but you never know what the future yield will be either! The value of encouragement can’t be measured in a simple solution because it is always calculated on a compound interest level.

6. You are building confidence both in yourself and the person you seek to encourage.
When you give someone else the gift of affirmation, your words are providing the power of hope. Hope to take the next step. Hope to do the right thing. Then your own confidence is uplifted because of the empowerment you offered to someone else. God wants us to be confident in our work for Him because it is through Him that we can find the strength for each day!
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Phil 1:6

We Believe

Ladies, are you familiar with Journey Magazine?

Journey is a monthly devotional magazine for women with wonderful feminine appeal. The daily devotional content is substantive but not overwhelming for women with jam-packed schedules. Journey's focus remains consistent - to help women develop a daily quiet time that allows them to pray, read God's Word, and listen for God to speak to them. These wonderful magazines are put out in our church foyer at the first of each month..be sure to look for yours!!

On the back of this month's Journey is a graphic of what Journey believes and stands for.  It is a powerful reminder for each of us in to hold fast to in our homes and church.

We Believe in the Home:

It's the place where ministry
starts and ends
day in and day out.

We stand for dynamic marriages
that beat the odds
and practice commitment.

We believe in family meals
and talking about your day.

We believe that your corner of the earth
whatever it looks like, is an
extension of the church.

A place where community is
grown and nurtured.

We believe that if you
change the home
you change the world.

There is a lot of life
between Sundays.

Guest Speaker Sunday Night

On Sunday night, Missionary Lorna Bius will be sharing with us.  Born in Valdosta. Ga., Bius was raised in a Christian home and surrendered her life to Christ at age 9. Her family moved several times in her formative years, but their commitment to raising her to follow Christ never wavered.

“From an early age, God has given me a passion for His kingdom work expressed through His people. I genuinely love the Church and the impact it makes in families and communities. The opportunity to serve with Southern Baptists in a renewed effort to share Christ’s love across the west was the big factor in joining the West Region Team. It’s a blessing to see how local churches are strengthened as SBC entities partner together. I want to draw the attention of Southern Baptists’ to God’s work in the west, as well as help connect the support of the NAMB to the west,” says Bius.

LoveLoud ministries communicate the gospel in both word and deed. Lorna Bius works with churches in 13 western states to to help them discover creative ways to reach out to neglected neighbors, communities, and children. Befriending refugees, helping local schools, providing food to families, and offering free medical/dental clinics are some examples of how LoveLoud helps churches turn "inside out". Identifying church planting opportunities, networking among existing churches, and multiplying compassion ministries are all part of Lorna's work with LoveLoud.

Be encouraged to come out Sunday  night at 6:00 PM to hear what God is doing around our country through missions.

Following the evening service, we will gather in the fellowship hall for an ice cream buffet - ice cream with all the toppings!  All are welcome to stay and enjoy a sundae on Sunday!

VBS Family Night

Our Vacation Bible School ended Friday and on Friday night we celebrated “Family Night”.  A great crowd of parents came to see the things their children had learned through the week.

One common theme through the night as classes were identified and certificates given out was how much the adults learned from our children!  This week some precious children passed through our church and learned about the armor of God. They laughed, played, sang and grew in the Word.

Some of our adults ‘dressed up’ for Family Night.  Here are some of our princes and princesses!

Drop a Pebble in the Water

DROP A PEBBLE IN THE WATER

Drop a pebble in the water, just a splash, and it is gone;
But there are half a hundred ripples circling on and on and on,
Spreading, spreading from the center, flowing on out to sea.
And there is no way of telling where the end is going to be.

Drop a pebble in the water; in a minute you will forget,
But there are little waves a-flowing and there are ripples circling yet,
And those little waves a-flowing to a great big wave have grown;
You've disturbed a mighty river just by dropping in a stone.

Drop an unkind word, or careless: in a minute it is gone;
But there's half a hundred ripples circling on and on and on,
They keep spreading, spreading, spreading from the center as they go.
And there is no way to stop them, once you've started the flow.

Drop a word of cheer and kindness: just a flash and it is gone;
But there are half a hundred ripples circling on and on and on,
Bearing hope and joy and comfort on each splashing, dashing wave,
Till you wouldn't believe the volume of the one kind word you gave.

Drop a word of cheer and kindness: in a minute you forget;
But there's gladness still a-swelling, and there's joy circling yet.
And you've rolled a wave of comfort whose sweet music can be heard,
Over miles and miles of water just by dropping one kind word.

Observance of the Lord's Supper

This Sunday night we will be observing the Lord's Supper.  This will be done in the evening service which should make for a special and sacred time.  Be encouraged to come back Sunday night as we 'do this in remembrance of Him".

Looking For Donations

This is a late notice, but next week is Children's Camp.  We are looking for donations of snacks and/or water/drinks to keep in our girls and boys cabins.  The camp provides meals, but often our campers need a bottle of water or a snack when they are in the cabin...these kids can eat!!!

If you would like to help, please bring your food/drink to church Sunday.  Some suggestions are:
small bottles of water
capri sun
little debbie snacks
cookies
crackers etc.

Thanks for your support for our kids!

Outreach Monday Night!!

Church outreach will be Monday night from 7:00 - 8:00 PM.  All are welcome to join in reaching our community for Christ.  Several different ministry areas are available - praying, making phone calls, writing out cards and going out to visit.  Which area works best for you?  There is something for everyone to do as we allow God to fill us and use us to reach others.
