Happy Memorial Day

Although no sculptured marble should rise to their memory, nor engraved stone bear record of their deeds, yet will their remembrance be as lasting as the land they honored.  ~Daniel Webster

Six Steps To Become the Church Member God Calls Us To Be

Have you read the latest issue of Home Life Magazine? There is a great article "I Am a Church Member". Going to share some bits through the week.

"God didn't give local churches to become country clubs where membership means having privileges and perks. He placed us in churches to serve, to care for others, to pray for leaders, to learn, to teach, to give..." May our hearts' desire cause us to be the church body that loves and grows in His love.

1. Kind of membership is not of the world, "Now you are the body of Christ and individual members of it." I Cor. 12:27. Members should be functioning members, ready to give, serve, minister, evangelize, study and seek to be a blessing to others.

2. Strive to be a source of unity in the church.

3. I will not let my church be about my preferences and desires, that's self-serving. I'm in this church to serve others and to serve Christ. My Savior went to the cross for me. I can deal with any inconvenience and matters that aren't my preference or style.

 4. I will pray for my pastor every day. My pastor cannot serve our church in his own power. May God work through Him to give him strength, energy, wisdom and may God's Word pour from him through sermons and actions.

5. Lead our family to be good members as well. Pray together for our church, worship together in church, serve together in the church. Ask God to help us fall deeper in love with the church.

6. Remember that membership is a gift. Through the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, we became a part of the body of Christ. Now, we are humbled and honored to serve and love others in our church. May we never take our church membership for granted but see it as a gift and an opportunity to serve others and to be a part of something so much greater than any one person or member.

Mother's Day Offering

Each year on Mother's Day, we receive an offering to share with the Florida Baptist Children's Home.

Here is a word from them: "The purpose at Florida Baptist Children’s Homes is to help the neglected, abused and orphaned children of the world – to fulfill them physically, emotionally and spiritually. And with thousands of children in foster care just in the state of Florida, our mission is challenging. We need your help. Please join us in our goal to create a world where no child is left alone. By investing in children, you increase their chances for a brighter future. They too can share and spread love."

Please pray for this ministry and ask the Lord what He would have you to do to share in this offering on Sunday.

Prayer for the church

Filling of the Holy Spirit

Problem: No spiritual power/working under our own strength

Symptom: A dead church, no salvations, baptisms or bold witnessing

Scripture: Acts 4:31; Ex. 35:30-31; Eph. 5:18-21

Request: Pour fresh oil upon us. May the first of God fall upon Your people that we may be God’s instruments in the state! Make us clean vessels so You may pour the Holy Spirit into us so we may be useful.

National Day of Prayer

The upcoming 62nd annual National Day of Prayer, May 2, 2013, will have profound significance for our country.  We have an unprecedented opportunity to see the Lord’s healing and renewing power made manifest as we call on citizens to humbly come before His throne.  To echo the words of Mary Washington, mother of our nation’s first president, we believe it is time to “Remember that God is our only sure trust.”

Our theme for 2013 is Pray for America, emphasizing the need for individuals, corporately and individually, to place their faith in the unfailing character of their Creator, who is sovereign over all governments, authorities, and men.  To further highlight our theme, we’ve chosen Matthew 12:21 as our Scripture for this year:  “In His name the nations will put their hope.

Our community  will have the opportunity to join the National Day of Prayer Thursday, May 2 on the steps of Live Oak City Hall for a time of prayer beginning at 12:15 p.m. Prayers will be offered for the needs of our nation and community. Seating will not be provided. Lawn chairs are welcome.
