Haiti Relief

Here is a portion of an email from the Florida Baptist Convention regarding the crisis in Haiti.

HAITI DISASTER FACTS

The category 4 Hurricane Matthew struck with 150 miles per hour winds, causing major destruction to the Southern tip of the Caribbean nation.

At least 1,000 people have died, many already being buried in mass graves
100 percent of crops and livestock, which provides sustenance, have been destroyed in the affected area
Cholera, a killer disease contracted through contaminated water, is beginning to spread
1.4 million people in Haiti need humanitarian assistance
80% of homes are damaged in Southern Haiti
Nearly 16,000 people are staying in temporary shelters

Florida Baptists have partnered with Haiti for the past two decades through the Confraternite Missionaire Baptiste de Haiti (CMBH). Thousands of Florida Baptists have had boots on the ground to minister in word and deed.

Just six years after an earthquake brought this impoverished country to its knees, Hurricane Matthew slammed the island country, bringing misery upon misery.

Pastor Appreciation Month

October is traditionally known as "Pastor Appreciation Month".  The nature of the service provided by pastors and their families is unique. God has entrusted to them one of the most precious of assignments — the spiritual well-being of His flock. At Antioch, we are blessed to have a pastor who brings us the Word of God each week and leads our church with diligence, faithfulness and love.

As a church, we deeply appreciate Bro. Dave and Caroline and their service to the Lord.  As church families, be encouraged to share how their leadership has been a blessing to you and your family.

Of course the greatest gift to give our pastor is prayer.

Here are some suggestions we can use to pray.

  • I pray that they would love Jesus with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength, and that their ministry would never steal from them their first love, Jesus Christ.
  • I pray that they would love and serve their wife and family with glad hearts and that their family would have love for the ministry instead of resenting it for “stealing” their husband and daddy away.
  • I pray for a passion; for conviction and dedication to their calling and to Jesus Christ.
  • I pray that they will walk in confidence while kneeling in humility as gentle shepherds who care for their sheep.
  • I pray for encouragement in their faith and ministry, and against those who attack, slander, harm, or speak evil against them.
  • I pray that their teaching and preaching will be accurate, true, bold, convicting, encouraging, anointed, and Christ-centered.
  • I pray that God will guard them from burnout and depression.
  • I pray that they will never fall prey to envy, jealousy, insecurity, or comparison.
  • I pray for their holiness and purity, and against lust, affairs, love of money, and pride.
  • I pray for rest spiritually and physically, and that they know that it is not their ministry they are leading, but God’s.
  • I pray that they will finish better than they started.
  • I pray that they will take time to have fun, do things they enjoy, spend time with their wives and play with the kids, and get away often to find peace and solitude.
  • I pray for God to raise up people around them to assist them, serve them, honor them, encourage them, pray for them, admonish them, and protect them.
  • I pray that ministry, teaching, preaching, and leading will never become a chore for them, but that it would always be a joy and blessing to serve the Lord and His people with kindness and gladness, and that they would enjoy every aspect of leading, whether easy or hard, for the glory of God.

Walk 4 Life Winners

Team Antioch participated in the annual Walk 4 Life which benefits our local Pregnancy Care Center.  Community churches each set a dollar amount goal to try to reach.  The church that meets and exceeds the goal by the most amount gets to bring home the trophy for the year!

The generous church family of Antioch brought in over $700.00 which was much over the goal set for $400.00.  Thank you, Team Antioch for your support for LIFE!

Praying for One Another

There are no adequate words to bring salve to the tragedies and injustices that continue to take place in America.  It sometimes feels like every time you wake up in the morning, another tragedy—another reason to be saddened, anxious and confused—is pumping on the headlines.

Because we don’t often know what to say or do, our first inclination is to pray. We feel compelled to say or do something, and so we pray, and we post online that we care, and we are praying.  Through our prayers, God moves and ushers His gracious care into countless hearts and lives. God can do more than we can do, so we certainly want His help.

Andy Stanley has said, “Do for one what you wish you could do for everyone.” You may not be able to do much, but you can do something. Shine the love of God to the people around you. Speak up for justice for the oppressed. Stand for peace for all sides. Show God’s graciousness and loving kindness to all you interact with. Be a voice of hope in a world mixed with pain."

The Bible says, “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them” (James 4:17).

Pray and trust God to do what you cannot do. Because God is much greater than man, He can help in our pain like no one else can. God can do more in a moment than we can do in a lifetime.  God is always working, and redeeming what the enemy meant for evil.

Tragedies will always arise on this earth, but we will always arise to pray and to shine God’s love and truth.

Back to the Basics

A recent devotion shared a lesson for all Christians as we move into fall, let's get back to the basics..

"Remember, being comes before doing. Our authenticity trumps our activity.  It's great to be busy for the Lord, but our walk with the Lord is more important than our work for the Lord."

"As children of the King, we are to walk worthy of our calling."  H. Edwin Young

Church Homecoming

Antioch's 165th Church Homecoming will be October 9. Every year, we look forward to a special day filled with gratitude, fellowship and worship.  We remember God's faithfulness through the years while His call to move forward in kingdom work compels us to love others and seek to share His love.

Special Homecoming guests will be Amber Abbot who will be ministering through music beginning at 9:45 AM.  Morning message will be shared by Bro. Jimmy McCullers. Morning service will begin at 11:00 AM.

Following the service will be dinner on the grounds.  A tradition we all look forward to as we rekindle friendships for the past and spend time sharing and bonding with newer church family.
