Youth Camp This Week

Several of our teens and adults are headed to Youth Camp for a few days. Please pray for their safety through the week and for them to have a great time. Most importantly, please pray for the Lord to do a work in their hearts. Here is a guide for praying for teens. Please use this for week and through the year to support and guide our teens.

Sunday: For a desire to read and understand Scripture. To love it and let is shape their character and behavior.

Monday: For them to desire fellowship and strong links with other Christians, even when they are away from home (college, jobs etc.).

Tuesday: That they see their Christianity as the priority, caring about others enough to find a way to introduce them to Christ.

Wednesday: For a desire to read and glean from sound Christian publishing. May they fill their minds with things that are pure, true, of good report, etc. May they reject anything unholy or evil.

Thursday: For our young people to have a desire and a fire to seek the Lord and His will.
Friday: For a spirit of purpose.

Saturday: For a spirit of holiness in all that they do. For Christ-like behavior. I Peter 1:13-16.

Working At the Car Wash...

Here are some scenes from last weekend's youth car wash. The youth worked hard and washed several cars to help with the expenses of youth camp.

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. I Timothy 4:12

Christmas In August

Our children will be involved in a mission project "Christmas In August" and there is plenty of opportunity for the church family to participate.

Christmas In August is a program designed to bless missionaries and church planters. Our kids are adopting a family who are serving in New Orleans, Louisiana and they have 5 children ages ranging from ages 2-16.

Here is a list of donations that will bless this family and make their outreach more productive:

children's art supplies
children's playing cards
card games (small card games)
flashlights and batteries
gift cards (Starbucks, Home Depot, Lowe's, chain restaurants, Wal-Mart,etc.)
LifeWay gift cards (primarily for church needs, i.e., Bibles, gospel tracts, church supplies)
Office Depot gift cards (for church needs)
hygiene supplies(toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, etc.)
pocket New Testaments (Holman Christian Standard, English Standard Version, NKJV, or other modern translation)
school supplies

Thank you for your support and encouragement for our kids as they reach out and grow in missions.

Activities This Week

On Wednesday at 6:00 PM there will be the monthly Family Meal and Prayer. This is a great opportunity to spend some time in fellowship with one another and enjoy a meal together. Following the meal the children will have missions activities and the adults will join for prayer meeting. Plan to bring a covered food dish and the family.
Friday at noon there will be a special lunch just for our widows. This promises to be a special time of fellowship with a lunch being prepared. If you are a widow, you are encouraged to come.
There are a few in our church family to lift up in your thoughts and prayers:
Rex and Dianne's grandson has been diagnosed with scoliosis.
Shirley W. has a great grandson who has been infected by the swine flu.
Ida D. has been suffering with headaches recently.
Tammy C. broke her wrist this week and is undergoing treatment for the break.
Please keep these in prayer and let them know you care for them.

Principles of Temptation

We recently heard a sermon dealing with Temptation. It was a powerful, sobering and encouraging message from God's Word.

Temptation can be defined as an enticement to do wrong with a promise of pleasure or gain. Temptation motivates us to do something bad in order to receive pleasure or indulgence.

Each one of us face temptations. Our enemy knows where we are weak and often uses temptation in that area.

4 Principles of Temptation

1. Temptation is inevitable. The question is "when", not "if". Be prepared.

2. We are not tempted by God.

3. Temptation is an individual matter.

4. Temptation that leads to sin follows the same process: we are enticed, then desire, then give in to sin. If we resist, we will not be snared.
James 1:13-16

4 Practical Ways To Handle Temptation

1. Counteract temptation. Be alert and on guard, don't tolerate or meditate on it.

2. Use the right resistance: Sometimes it is self-control, sometimes the biblical answer is to flee.

3. Remind yourself that the final pain of giving in to temptation will erase the temporary pleasure. Consider the cost of giving in.

4. Control your thought life. Philippians 4:8. Pull every thought to obedience to God. Memorize Scripture. Use God's Word to battle and overcome temptation.
